FlipPay accounts are enabled for card payments using our online services using the major cards. FlipPay doesn't operate EFTPOS terminals, but can arrange favourable terms with our payments partner Till Payments.

Card payments enable customers to pay a business a requested amount immediately via credit/debit card, either as a stand-alone "pay now" request or an option alongside a finance product.

In either case, the payment is processed immediately by FlipPay, with real-time notifications provided to the business, and funds settled to the business' preferred bank account usually on the next business day.

Card surcharge

Card payments attract a surcharge per payment, paid by the customer - the rate per card is displayed on the payment page, as is the dollar value of the fee and total amount to be debited from a card. This means the requested amount is the amount that will be disbursed to the business, making reconciliation simple (and providing a free card payment service).

Refunds

Refunds are not currently supported via the merchant portal - we recommend businesses arrange refunds directly with customers where necessary.

We're updating this feature shortly - watch this space.

Charge backs

Card payments do present a risk of "charge backs" - where a customer can contact their bank and challenge a debit on their account, and the bank is able to debit those funds back from FlipPay before requiring FlipPay to present evidence to verify the payment is legitimate (and should be returned to FlipPay).

In the case of a charge back, FlipPay is acting on the business' behalf and will present the required information to retrieve the payment from the bank:

  • Fees involved in the dispute will be charged to the business (the banks and FlipPay's card services providers will typically charge fees of $25-50 or more, per instance of a chargeback), noting that such fees are charged regardless of the dispute being resolved or not

  • If FlipPay is unsuccessful in retrieving funds, the business will be required to reimburse FlipPay - remember, the payment was really debited back from the business, FlipPay is simply the payment service
